Type in Motion

Rence - Baby Blue

I watched various social media videos to help me decide on what motion effects I wanted to create. There are hundreds of free tutorials I found on YouTube to guide me through my process, but the channels I found to be the most helpful were Dope Motions and TechnoMafia Visuals. Once I had an idea of the motions I wanted to simulate, I decided on the typeface and colors. The 1975 video became a type and color study using Helvetica with a purple, pink, blue, and green gradient. For the Rence video, I studied the typeface, Proxima Nova with a variation of blue and green colors.

Lyric videos have become an important part of the music industry. They provide a way for fans to connect with the lyrics of their favorite songs, which increases the song’s relatability. With the rise of online streaming services, lyric videos have become essential for promoting and marketing music. As the music industry continues to evolve, lyric videos will become a significant part of the music experience for both artists and their listeners.

For this project, I created an engaging type-in-motion video. I explored new creative possibilities and experimented with typography in ways that are not possible with still text. Through my animating process, I was able to make experimental and captivating visuals.

The 1975 - UGH!

  • Syncing sound with visuals: Creating a motion lyric video requires coordinating different elements, including the music, lyrics, visuals, and other forms of animation. To make a successful video, it was essential for me to match the visuals with the tempo of the song.

  • Animation skills: Motion lyric videos involve animating typography and graphics in time with the music, requiring a certain range of animation skills. I learned to animate type with graphics in a creative and engaging way. This allowed me to utilize plug-ins, keyframes, easing, and timing, which can be applied to other areas of motion graphics.

  • Software skills: Designing these motion lyric videos required a deeper understanding of the software, After Effects. I now have more experience and expertise with video formatting, frame rates, resolutions, aspect ratios, compression methods, and exporting.
